Orthodontics is a specialty within dentistry that focuses on the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of dental and facial irregularities. Orthodontics can help fix the patient’s teeth, improper bites, and crooked teeth.

An Orthodontist is a specialist that has received additional education and training in the field of dentistry. Orthodontists receive 3 years of additional schooling where they focus on tooth movement and facial development.

According to the American Association of Orthodontists, children should schedule a consultation with an orthodontist at the age of 7. At the age of 7, Dr. Meason can determine if any orthodontic treatment is needed by reviewing the following:

  • Tooth loss and eruption
  • Crowding and spacing
  • Tooth alignment
  • Protrusive front teeth
  • Open bites
  • Cross bites
  • Under bites

At Meason Orthodontics, we offer a wide range of treatment options depending upon your case. Dr. Meason uses the latest technology to deliver excellence.

Treatment duration is dependent upon the severity of the case and the compliance of the patient. A patient who maintains good oral hygiene, keeps appointments, and follows instructions throughout treatment will complete their treatment on or ahead of schedule. The average treatment time is typically one to two years.

Braces and appliances are pretty sturdy, but we do ask that you avoid any hard, sticky, and chewy foods while in treatment. Maintaining a healthy diet is important for everyone’s teeth and overall health. The healthier you are, the better the outcome of your orthodontic treatment.

Don’t worry! If one of your brackets pops off, call our office and schedule an appointment. We will schedule to have it bonded back on. If you have a pokey wire, use wax at the end of the wire as this will help prevent the wire from poking your cheek and gum.
